Can Credit Repair Help You?
Many of us would love to improve our credit.
A higher credit score means easier access to credit and lower
interest rates. However, many people who want to "fix"
their credit turn to credit repair agencies.
Unfortunately, many of these agencies turn out to be outright
rip offs. Even legitimate agencies often charge high fees
for doing things that you can do for yourself for free.
For this reason, we often advise against using credit repair
agencies.
You can read more about how to improve your
credit at the
FTC's website. You can obtain a free copy of your
credit report at
www.annualcreditreport.com. If there are any
legitimate errors on your credit report, you can also report
them after you have pulled your free credit report.
If you would like to learn
more about how to repair your credit, a legitimate
consumer
credit counseling service should be able to help you.
The credit counselor may even be able to review your credit
report with you and let you know what items are hurting your
credit score and how to improve or offset them.
